The VCA* Certification
The VCA* certificate is a quality mark demonstrating compliance with VCA regulations and responsible management of safety, health, and environment (SHE). VCA stands for Safety, Health, and Environment Checklist for Contractors. It focuses on creating a safe work environment for employees and everyone involved in a project. At Imbema Controls, all measurement specialists installing gas and electricity meters must hold a personal VCA certificate (Basic or Full), meeting the strict safety requirements of our clients.
Different Levels
The VCA program is intended for companies operating in high-risk environments such as construction, engineering, and installations. Levels include:
- VCA*: Focuses on SHE management on the work floor.
- VCA**: Adds assessment of safety structures and systems on top of VCA* requirements.
- VCA Petrochemicals: For complex, high-risk tasks in petrochemical industries, adding extra requirements beyond VCA**.
Beyond Basic Requirements
Imbema goes further than just meeting the basics. All Imbema Controls measurement specialists hold a personal VCA certificate. The two types:
- VCA Basic: Awareness of work hazards, handling dangerous substances, and acting safely in unsafe situations.
- VCA VOL: For operational managers, covering all of the above and how to promote safe behavior and conduct task risk analyses when necessary.
All our measurement specialists hold a VCA VOL certificate (valid 10 years) and an annually renewed First Aid certificate.
Safety Training
Before working independently, specialists undergo an extensive onboarding process. They receive training not only on technical skills but also on workplace safety, including last-minute risk assessments.
Continuous Awareness and Monitoring
Safety is a continuous process at Imbema. Internal campaigns increase awareness across offices and warehouses. Updates are shared via sessions, SharePoint, emails, and by prevention officers and SHE coordinators. Regular site inspections map out risks, ensuring clear safety routes, certified tools, and up-to-date personal protective equipment.
Emergency Response (BHV)
By law, employers must organize adequate emergency response and appoint BHV officers. Imbema’s BHV team uses an app to respond quickly to incidents and ensure safe evacuations during annual drills. Experiences are shared regularly to keep improving safety protocols.
Logistics Safety: Forklifts and Pedestrian Routes
In logistics, all forklift operators are certified, with certificates monitored for renewal. Electric forklifts reduce emissions, and pedestrian routes in warehouses are clearly marked. Visitors and staff must wear safety shoes and high-visibility vests when entering warehouses.
A Fundamental Component
Safety is a core principle at Imbema Controls. VCA certification is part of a broader safety policy that ensures employees and clients can trust safety as the standard, not an option.
