Gas detection is crucial to keep the workplace and environment safe. Gas detection measures the presence of (hazardous) gases so that your employees are warned in time if an emission is detected. This way, we prevent accidents in the short term and ensure the long-term protection of your employees' health. Why gas detection?

Throughout evolution, humans have adapted to the Earth's atmosphere, which consists of approximately 21% oxygen and 79% nitrogen. The human body functions best with this ratio. Small deviations can already affect well-being, larger deviations can affect health, and very large deviations can be fatal. The main dangers are: oxygen deficiency and the presence of explosive and/or toxic gases. In various industries such as the chemical industry, oil and gas extraction, but even in a parking garage or boiler room, there is a risk of deviation. Gas detection is therefore crucial for:  

  • Protecting your employees: The primary goal is to ensure the safety and health of your employees. Exposure to toxic or explosive gases can lead to serious health problems or even death.
  • Preventing accidents: By detecting dangerous gas levels early, potential accidents, such as explosions or poisonings, are prevented.
  • Compliance with regulations: The government enforces strict regulations regarding gas detection and emissions. Your company must comply with these standards. A violation results in a fine.

Different types of gas detection

There are various types of gas detection equipment available, each suitable for specific applications and gas types. We explain which types are available.

1. Portable personal gas detection

Portable personal gas detectors, such as the gas detectors from Industrial Scientific, are compact and portable devices worn by employees. This way, employees are immediately warned if there are dangerous gas levels. Colleagues can also be monitored in the environment you are working in via a connected "man-down function". This allows us to keep an eye on each other.

2. Fixed gas detection

Fixed gas detectors, such as the products from Teledyne Oldham Simtronics, are installed in fixed locations within your installation and continuously monitor specific gas levels in the space. They are ideal for environments where constant monitoring is essential, such as at oil & gas plants, refineries, and in factories and laboratories.

 3. Plume or flame detection

Plume or flame detectors detect the presence of combustible gases and flames. This type of detection is essential in environments where there is a high risk of fire or explosion, such as in oil and gas installations.

4. Multi and single gas detectors

Multi-gas detectors can detect multiple types of gases simultaneously, while single gas detectors are specific to one type of gas. These detectors are often used for personal protection and in industrial applications where various hazardous gases may be present.

5. Flue gas analysis

Flue gas analysis is an important part of gas detection, especially when checking the emissions of combustion engines and heating systems. This includes CHP units, generators, shaft motors, combustion installations, or other forms of combustion. With flue gas analysis, it is measured whether the emissions comply with legal environmental standards.

6. Respiratory and face protection
