Bad Kissingen Wastewater Treatment Plant
The German city of Bad Kissingen is internationally renowned as a spa town. The local medicinal springs are of great cultural, social, and economic importance. Since 2021, the spa town has been a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Bavarian municipality therefore invests heavily in protecting these springs from contamination by wastewater.
Preventing contamination of the thermal springs
Protecting these springs is a considerable challenge. On one side is the Fränkische Saale River, which can overflow its banks. On the other side is the municipal wastewater treatment plant, more than 60 years old. If this facility were to shut down, it could lead to serious contamination of the thermal springs. The latter must be prevented at all costs.
Components are heavily stressed
The rotating parts of machines, such as bearings, chains, and spindles, are continuously exposed to wastewater. These components are heavily stressed by dirt, phosphates, and other harmful chemicals. Additionally, they are also subjected to weather conditions, ranging from well below freezing in winter to tropical temperatures in summer.
Performing maintenance as efficiently as possible
Abandoning manual lubrication
To ensure continuously reliable lubrication of rotating parts, manual lubrication has been abandoned. Many lubrication points are now equipped with perma single-point lubrication systems. The perma Flex grease cartridges are filled with biodegradable lubricant. An activator on the cartridge ensures a continuous supply of fresh and clean lubricant, ranging from oil to grease.
Changing the grease cartridge only once or twice a year
The huge advantage of the perma Flex cartridges is that the amount of lubricant is exactly right. Too much or too little lubrication can sometimes cause malfunctions. Additionally, maintenance workers now only need to change a grease cartridge once or twice a year. This not only reduces maintenance hours but is also safer than frequently checking lubrication points with the old-fashioned grease gun. Forgetting a lubrication point is no longer an issue.
Monteurs hoeven zich niet in allerlei bochten te wringen
Daar waar smeerpunten moeilijk bereikbaar zijn, is op het smeerpunt een slang aangebracht. Die slang is weer aangesloten op een smeerpatroon, die op een makkelijk toegankelijke plek is gemonteerd. Zo hoeven monteurs zich niet in allerlei bochten te wringen om een smeerpatroon te vernieuwen.
Significant contribution to reliability
The use of the perma automatic lubrication systems has made a significant contribution to the reliability of the entire treatment plant. Downtime has been reduced. Lubricant consumption has decreased. Maintenance costs are under control.
