Pioneering EUMOS standard for ventilation in light commercial vehicles

Light commercial vehicles are covered by existing laws and regulations, including ADR. Yet a clear standard for ventilation was missing. That is why the European Safe Logistics Association (Eumos) is introducing the new EUMOS 40250. For the first time, this standard provides clear guidelines on ventilation and air quality in light commercial vehicles and recreational vehicles such as motorhomes. This is an important step for anyone involved in furnishing or operating these vehicles.
Why a new standard?
Safety and health are key. Moisture and hazardous gases can accumulate in an enclosed cargo area, with all the risks that this entails. The new EUMOS standard sets clear requirements on how ventilation should be arranged to protect drivers and other road users.
It also addresses the practical side: a so-called walk-around inspection. Before opening the cargo area door, the driver checks the area and the vehicle for possible hazards. This reduces the chance of harmful vapours being released.

Initiative and development
While developing the Easy Aero roof ventilator, our Product Development Manager, Gertjan Van der Veer discovered that there were no unambiguous, clear and measurable regulations for ventilation in light commercial vehicles. He took this to Eumos and led the development of this ventilation standard. Thanks to his efforts, EUMOS 40250 became a reality. Gertjan is excited that there is now finally a standard for good air quality in light commercial vehicles.
