Trailer locks

Prevent cargo theft with a certified trailer lock

Cargo theft remains a major problem. In 2022, 13416 cargo thefts were reported with a total loss of more than EUR 324 million. This is a more than doubling compared to 2021. Besides cargo theft, climbers are also causing increasing damage and costs. A certified trailer lock on the rear doors of your trailer will prevent you from being targeted. There are different types of certified trailer locks available. But what is the difference between these trailer locks and which trailer lock is most suitable for you?

Mechanical trailer locks

With a mechanical trailer lock, you provide your trailer with rock-solid security. In addition, mechanical trailer locks have a deterrent effect. Criminals are more likely to leave your vehicle standing if it is fitted with a trailer lock. Our mechanical trailer locks are Kiwa SCM certified and suitable for TAPA TSR 3 certification.

Electronic trailer locks

With electronic trailer locks, you not only provide your truck with rock-solid security, but also have real-time insight into the location and condition of the load. You can decide who you give access to the cargo space of your vehicle, and when. With electronic locks, you easily register when and by whom the lock was opened. This means you always know who was responsible for the transport. Our electronic trailer locks meet the highest security standards and are suitable for TAPA TSR 1 certification.

Kiwa SCM approved locks

With a Kiwa SCM approved lock, you can be sure that your trailer is optimally protected against burglary. This is because SCM-approved trailer locks are thoroughly tested for strength. Our approved locks feature extra-strong cast-iron brackets and a high-quality padlock. An example of such an SCM-approved lock is the SBS Turtle trailer lock. Certain transport insurance policies even require an SCM-certified lock. If no lock with an approval mark was then used in case of burglary, the insurance company will not pay compensation. Thieves are more likely to leave a vehicle fitted with an extra lock.
Especially for a trailer door where the locking bars are close together, we have the SBS Turtle S lock available. If the locking bars are further apart, you can fit the regular Turtle lock. With electronic locks, the locking rods have no influence.
Yes, besides mechanical and electronic trailer locks, we also have a king pin trailer lock and a drawbar eye lock available. It is also possible to equip your trailer with temperature, light, motion sensors, GPS tracking devices, alarm systems and sidewall detection.

Should you experience any problems with any of our mechanical or electronic locks, report them for repair on our repair page.

Telematics

The SBS trailer locks are easily linked to our SBS telematica system or to your own telematics software. This allows you to manage the security, integrity and condition of your cargo during transport. For example, you can have the lock blocked remotely from the planning department. But geofencing is also possible. Here, trailer doors can only be opened at predetermined locations, such as at a customer's or customs office.
When you link our SBS locks to a telematics system, you have 24/7 real-time insight into the location and condition of your cargo. You can remotely see whether your trailer doors are locked, when they are opened and where your goods are. This way, you record every action and can intervene if the situation demands it.
Yes, it is possible to link alarms and sensors to our SBS electronic trailer locks. This can be done through motion sensors, door/wall sensors and alarm sirens. The sensors are placed at strategic locations within the trailer, such as near the doors, in the walls or near valuables. When a sensor detects unauthorised activity, such as movement or door opening, the alarm system is activated. Depending on the specific system you use, you can then receive notifications on your phone, trigger an alert sound or even alert the emergency services.
